Stroller Safety Tips

When you buy any product for your child, safety is perhaps your primary concern. And in buying a baby stroller for your little angle, there are several standards and guidelines in order to make sure that a particular stroller is safe for your kid. Personally, you can make sure that you choose only the safest baby stroller possible if you familiarize yourself with the said standards before buying – even choosing – a particular brand or type of stroller that you will use.

A baby stroller is considered to be safe when it meets the basic safety standards required in every stroller. First, a stroller should have safety harness that is securely attached to the stroller frame or to the stroller’s upholstery. It should also be designed to properly restrain a child when seated. Next, the stroller should have a locking device that will prevent any accidental collapse of the stroller when it is in use.

A safe baby stroller will have no exposed coil springs. Exposed coil springs is a very perfect tool for injuring and harming your child. Baby strollers should also have a warning sentence that reads something like “Caution: Secure child in the restraint. Never leave child unattended.” And this warning sign should always be attached to the stroller. Lastly, the stroller should be stable at all times even when the stroller is placed on an inclined surface, with or without the child seated inside.

Aside from knowing the basic safety requirements that every stroller should have, it is also imperative to you as a parent that you know a few safety tips in using your child’s baby stroller. One of the major things that you have to consider is the well balanced construction of the baby stroller.

Even a lightweight stroller should have a firm footing on the ground – it should not be wobbly or unsteady or tips over easily. If you are planning to buy a collapsible stroller, make sure that the locks into a stable frame before use. Check the baby stroller that you wish to buy and make sure that the model is not recalled for faulty construction

Also make sure that the stroller seat is comfortable and that the leg openings are not too large which the baby can slip through. Children can be very energetic at times and they can move very quickly. If you are a mother who is fond of putting her huge bag on the handle of the stroller while you are pushing it, then you are obliviously putting your child in danger. Your heavy bag can fall anytime directly at your baby. It is better to use the allotted storage area under the stroller seat. Do not use extra pillows, blankets and such in the stroller to avoid suffocation.
